Corporate volunteers looking to give back
Submitted by unitedway, 31 Jul 2012
We’ve just analysed our survey results for the first six months and ‘giving back to the community’ remains the number one reason that corporate volunteers nominate for volunteering (36% of volunteers). This is closely followed by ‘volunteering as a team’ (29%), and ‘being supported by my company (17%).
It’s not just the community that benefits from corporate volunteering. Volunteers tell us that the volunteering experience impacts them, with 58% reporting this impact is ‘a lot – I want to volunteer again and do more to support the community,’ and 41% saying they’d like to volunteer next time there is an opportunity.
As well as benefitting community organisations and making an impact on individual volunteers, United Way’s Corporate Connect team volunteering projects also have a positive impact for business. 95% of volunteers report ‘being supported by my company to be involved in the community has enhanced my view of the company.’ As significant is the strong response to the question “getting involved in community volunteering has enhanced my willingness to contribute to my company” with 86% of volunteers agreeing or strongly agreeing to this statement.
This last question is the type of question that is included in employee engagement surveys. Recent Australian and global research has clearly demonstrated the link between higher employee engagement and higher profitability and customer satisfaction.
