Our Community Collaborations

The Hive, Mount Druitt, NSW

Our work in Mount Druitt is coordinated through The Hive, a Collective Impact initiative that brings together 55 community, business, and government groups to ensure all children in the 2770 postcode are developmentally on track in their first year of school.

Our 2017 Impact at a Glance:

  • 800 hours of training in early childhood development and learning provided to 11 local child care centres
  • 35 community working groups facilitated, engaging organisations and community members to respond to local issues
  • Almost 700 quality books and learning packs delivered to vulnerable families
  • 201 children engaged through community events and activities, with parents and carers provided with information about further early learning opportunities

City of Ryde, NSW

The City of Ryde is home to the Macquarie Business Park Community Partnership, a collaboration giving leading businesses the chance to give back locally, helping address their community’s most pressing needs through United Way’s Early Years and Transition to Work initiatives.

Our 2017 Impact at a Glance:

  • Over 3250 books delivered to over 300 children
  • 19 Magic of Storytelling community reading events held, supporting over 150 families engage in shared reading activities and build children’s early literacy skills
  • More than 100 local high school students provided with local business mentors and opportunities to build their employment skills

Greater Western Sydney, NSW

We’re working across the suburbs of Colyton, North St Marys, Rooty Hill and Plumtpon to reach at-risk children and youth through our early learning and transition to work programs.

Our 2017 Impact at a Glance:

  • Over 500 high school students across Greater Western Sydney reached through the Schoolyard Collaboration initiative, a “whole of school approach” to improve youth employment opportunities
  • Almost 3400 books delivered to 300 children
  • 20+ youth at Colyton High School supported to become leaders in school and their community through the Everyday Leaders program

Southeast Brisbane, QLD

In Brisbane communities facing high rates of childhood vulnerability, we’re working to support children become school-ready, as well as to thrive in school once they start.

Our 2017 Impact at a Glance:

  • Working with business and school groups – and the Brisbane Lions! – to come together to provide nutritious school breakfasts to almost 130 children
  • More than 3300 books delivered to 250 children in Acacia Ridge
  • Improved school-preparedness for local kindergarten children through our Seasoned Storytellers & Budding Bookworms literacy program
  • More than 1800 books delivered to 150 children in Goodna

City Of Casey, VIC

We’re working with a range of corporate and community partners and volunteers to reach vulnerable groups across the City of Casey.

Our 2017 Impact at a Glance:

  • Connecting families facing social isolation and language barriers with local groups and initiatives to improve health and nutrition, early years literacy and other childhood development outcomes
  • More than 6300 books delivered to 450 children
  • Strengthening our connections with Aboriginal Best Start program to help bring the Imagination Library to more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
