Team United: Partners in Change

The Business of Giving Back

United Way Australia believes that lasting social change cannot be achieved without meaningful engagement and support from the business sector.

That’s why our partnerships focus on finding ways to leverage our partners’ expertise, networks and resources for the community good, all while delivering best-practice employee engagement activities.

In 2018, we partnered with around 50 businesses to deliver real community impact at a local and national scale. From getting their hands dirty participating in backyard blitzes, to stepping out against illiteracy, to helping students get ready for work, our committed partners demonstrated their commitment to building stronger communities together.

We sincerely thank all of our partners in change for their life-changing support.

A Model Business Park

The first of its kind in Australia, the Macquarie Park Business-Community Partnership takes an innovative approach to overcoming local community disadvantage.

A flourishing business district, Macquarie Park also represents pockets of high youth unemployment and vulnerability among children starting school. In response, local leading businesses along with United Way Australia and local groups have come together to form deep and meaningful community connections, providing practical and effective solutions to the challenges facing local families.

Since the partnership commenced in 2014, more than 1200 children and young people have been supported, with the Imagination Library delivering more than 12,000 books to local families, and more than 600 youth receiving skills and training to transition successfully from school to work.

It’s also a model for delivering deeper employee engagement, with staff now leading initiatives like the Macquarie Park Walkathon to better engage not just with local families, but with their business community too.

With the success of the Macquarie Park Business-Community Partnership firmly established, United Way Australia is thrilled to announce we’re looking to introduce a similar initiative in the Sydney CBD in 2019.
